Hi Gang!!

One of the things that makes the MOTEL BIZARRE project so special is the fact that the work is not only fun it is also educational! It’s true, the book MOTEL BIZARRE is chocked full of useful information that the whole family can enjoy!

Take for example the following set of photographs shown here. Let’s play compare and contrast, shall we?

Would you believe that both photo’s are of the same motel? The first photograph is an actual vintage postcard circa 1960. It was given to me by the new owner of the Maple Motel, Mr. Rakesh A. Maiseria, before he told me to get the hell off of his property or he was going to call the cops. Notice how clean the the property appears, the carefully attended to shrubbery, the awesome eye-catching sign, the hot ride parked out front….

Now look at the second photograph. This lovely photo will be appearing in the MOTEL BIZARRE book. I was able to snap it before I “got the hell off of the property.”

You can tell it’s the same place. It has the same name, the same telephone booth, the same cool 50’s awning. Yet something has changed.

What terrible fate caused this to happen to the once prosperous establishment? We may never know… Just let your mind wander… Now that’s the essence of MOTEL BIZARRE in practice.

Now go out and create something!!

XOXOXOX!

  1. I love the look & feel of nostalgic filth! Once upon a time these locations were shiny and new & I love seeing what they’ve become. If walls could talk… I imagine the husband who was unfaithfull to his wife & wonder if she ever found out. I wonder about the prostitutes trying to make a buck-for-a-fuck, the teenagers who had nowhere else to go to be alone or the young couple who were on their way to his Mother’s house for another miserable Holiday. You are a masterfull artist! ~Krissy
